Darkness, Rebellion, and God’s Promise
Week 3 (Jan 12–18, 2026)
Devotion
⚫ BLACK
The black colour represents darkness. When Adam and Eve rejected God’s loving rule and chose to define good and evil for themselves, sin entered the world.
Humanity could no longer live face to face with God. Shame, fear, suffering, and death followed, and the darkness we still experience today flows from that rebellion. But yet, God did not abandon his people.
Black represents darkness. Adam and Eve rejected God’s rule and chose to define good and evil for themselves. This rebellion brought sin and death into the world. Humanity could no longer live face to face with God; shame, fear, and separation followed.
Romans reminds us that all people share in this rebellion. Yet even in judgment, God provided hope, promising that one day a descendant would come to crush the serpent and save humanity from this eternal affliction.
